    Hello Friends,

    My wife is on F1, doing her masters and is done with her course work, just left with one project (2 credits). Her college has the option of getting CPT (curriculum practical training) signed till the time her masters is not complete and then she is allowed to work off campus for 40 hours (full time).

    I have also filled for my 485 application, so I was wondering what is her status now after filling for 485 . Also is it fine if she gets her CPT signed now after filing I485. I just want to be sure that getting her CPT signed has no negative impact on our I 485.

    Any suggestions or anyone in similar situation

    I suggest you contact your lawyer to make sure it won't be a problem.
    Working on CPT is part of maintaining F1 visa status and your case is same as being on F1 visa while ones I-485 is filed.

    Hi all, My passport is going to expire next month (November 28th). I can drive easily upto DC consulate .. wanted to know if there is anything specific I need to do. The website (Embassy of India - Washington DC (official website) United States of America - Application for a New Passport or Reissue of Passport (10) years (http://www.indianembassy.org/index.php?option=com_content&id=167)) does not mention anything about "walk in to consulate" information.
    Specifically,
    1. Do I need to call and book appointment ? If yes, is there a minimum waiting time to get an appointment, like how many days before ...
    2. Will I get the renewed passport the same day ?

    Any other points/instructions that you think are important please let me know.

    I don't have very many interesting subjects from my D70 test.     I have a EAD valid for next 2 years and H1 is also valid till Nov 2010, my employer want to cancel my H1 and to put me on EAD. Is there any kind of risk involved in doing so, Please suggest.

    There is not much risk in moving to EAD but I don't get why your employer wants to cancel an H1 which is valid till 2010. I have seen employers not wanting to extend an H1 if the employee has an EAD but going out of way to cancel a valid H1 seems extreme.

    Tell your employer to continue your employment on H1 until it expires and then they can start you on EAD. That would give you enough time to think of the PROs and CONS.

    A lot of people move to EAD ( don't renew H1 ) since it only costs more money for the company ( although it provides a small safety net in case your I-485 is in jeopardy somehow ). In my view it is very safe to move to EAD but again in your case I would ask the company to wait till 2010 for your current H1 to expire.

    My mother-in-law is on a visitor visa. She is supposed to go to india in 10 days. But she had a medical emergency and had a surgery this week. She cannot travel to india right now, as she needs rest after surgery. Can we apply visitor visa extension on medical grounds or is it safe to apply for extension on tourism/visiting grounds, Please advise.

    I think it is only for Mumbai Consulate(as mentioned in VFS (http://www.vfs-usa.co.in)).

    "For Mumbai consular district applicants only: Drop off your required documents three working days prior to your appointment at a VFS Application Centre in Mumbai, Pune or Ahmedabad."

    No where it is mentioned that HYD consulate has started. Where did you find it?

    my company lawyer did not ask for any tax returns or w2 forms .. Should they be submitted as part of "initial evidence"

    Tax returns are not part of "initial evidence". You have to provide them if asked by the USCIS.

    BTW, the IRS will mail you tax transcripts for free if you call them. You will get them within a few days.
